Blinding the Protesters by the Security Forces of the Islamic Republic

Since the street protests broke out in mid-September in Iran, the security forces have systematically used rubber bullets to target the face and eyes of the protesters, causing severe trauma and blindness in one or both eyes of the victims.
Based on the documents and statements of eyewitnesses and family members, hospital records, and the recent report by the New York Times dated November 19, 2022, hundreds of protesters have suffered severe eye injuries. In Tehran, over 500 people with severe eye injuries went to Farabi, Rasoul Akram, and Labafinejad hospitals. In Zahedan Hospital, at least twenty protesters lost their eyesight.
On November 19, 2022, Alavi Hospital in Tabriz took in 22 patients with eye injuries from Mahabad, Malekan, and other nearby towns. On November 11, 2022, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network published a report on seven people shot at the funeral of Zhina Mahsa Amini in Saqqez, Kurdistan. One of the victims, 21-year-old Mohammad Parsa Sehat, lost his eyes.
Some victims, including Ghazal Ranjkesh, a third-year law student in Bandar Abbas, Parsa Qobadi, an eighteen-year-old from Kermanshah, and Bita Kiani, a six-year-old girl from Flowerjan, Isfahan, have published pictures with one or both eyes with bullet wounds. They have filed lawsuits against the police.
Video clips show a girl shot in the eye in Karaj and a middle-aged man with eye injury in the Tehran subway. A young man named Arman Emadi in Marvdasht suffered brain death after surgery to remove his wounded eye.
These cases were not scattered incidents. They show a systematic criminal pattern of attacking peaceful demonstrators to cause serious injury to their eyes. We request the United Nations and international human rights forums use every means they have to stop the Islamic Republic from blinding and killing protesting people.
