Hand in Hand with the Brave Youth, in Solidarity with the “Women, Life, Freedom”
Uprising The horrible conflagration, sounds of explosion, shooting the prisoners and attacking them with tear gas in the enclosed space of units 7 and 8 of Evin prison on the evening of October 15, 2022, reminded us, "Khavaran mothers and families" and the other families of those killed, of the memory of massacres of prisoners in the 1980s in the prisons of Iran, and shivered our hearts. We do not yet know how many political and ordinary prisoners were killed in this disaster and the same disaster that happened at Rasht Lakan prison on October 9, 2022. The depth of these tragic events is not clear yet. The columns of the Islamic Republic of Iran are built upon sexual, ideological, ethnic, political, social, and economic discrimination and brutal suppression. During these years, the Islamic regime executed, sent to exile, brutally suppressed many of its dissidents, and removed them from the country's political scene by creating a terror and horror atmosphere.
Since the early 1980s and even before that, in 1979 and 1980, this suppressive regime arrested, tortured, and executed thousands of youths and elites of the country who rebelled against discrimination, injustice, and social, political, and economic inequality. The climax of this cruelty was the summer of 1988 when almost five thousand political prisoners were hanged by order of the "Death Board" based on a religious decree (fatwa) in Tehran and other cities in one and half a month behind the locked gates, while the families and the whole world were kept uninformed. They executed the prisoners who had already been tried in the show trials and were sentenced to prison; some had even finished their prison sentences. The bodies of the hanged political prisoners were secretly buried in Khavaran and other mass graves. The regime has tried to clear the traces of these crimes and silence the families, but they have not succeeded, and we are still pleading for justice. We have not been silenced despite continuous persecution and will continue our struggle until the truth is attained.
Despite these crimes and the brutal suppression of protests during the last four decades, we have always witnessed the exaltation of independent and popular movements that have gradually become more inclusive and radical. Khavaran mothers and families whose relentless combat for justice and their resistance as mothers and women against the regime inspired other justice-seeker mothers and women movements that have always accompanied people and supported them in all these protests, from civil movements to more general street protest demonstrations. There is no doubt that, finally, there will be a day when brave women and men will defeat this corrupted regime and attain freedom, equity, and social justice. We have always been and will be the supporters of people during their rebellion for freedom.
The uprising of "women, life, freedom" that flourished after the killing of Mahsa Amini by the regime against the compulsory hijab and other forms of social discrimination and injustice brought people who could not tolerate poverty, suppression, discrimination, injustice, and massacre any more to the streets to shake the world from east to west, from south to north, from Tehran to Kurdistan to Zahedan, from Iran to all other countries of the world. We, wherever in the world, will support the movement. Despite the brutal suppression of protesters in the streets, universities, schools, and prisons, killing at least 215 youths and children, torture thousands of people, and admissions under duress and threatening the protestors and families, the protests are still alive. We hope that the rebellion leads to victory through the support of all people from different social classes, inclusive strikes, and the support of world public opinion.
We, the undersigned, announce our solidarity with the progressive and deconstructive "women, life, freedom" movement. We ask all justice seeker families and brave women and men to join this movement and not let the suppressors kill our beloved ones in the streets or arrest, torture, and execute them in prison. Our presence in the streets, inside or outside the country, and solidarity with this revolutionary movement are crucial and decisive.
We would like to ask all freedom fighters to join us in the realization of the following requests:
1. All political prisoners must be freed unconditionally.
2. Execution sentences, torture, and admissions by coercion should be abolished.
3. Incrimination against children and teenagers must be stopped, and they must be freed unconditionally.
4. The truth of recent disasters in Evin prison and Rasht Lakan prison must become clear, and the names of those prisoners killed or injured must be announced.
5. The truth of all killings in the prisons and streets of Iran during the last 43 years must become clear to the public.
