اعتبار دادن سياسى و اجتماعى به لابى جمهورى اسلامى در غرب را پايان دهيد؛ نامه اى سرگشوده به انتشارات دانشگاهى جانزهاپكينز و سازمانهاى مدعى برابرى در غرب

نامه‌ى سرگشوده بهبلاگ و انتشارات دانشكده‌ى سلامت عمومى بلومبرگسازمان زنان در سلامت جهانى

بدين وسيله مايليم براى آگاهى عمومى، انتقاداتى را نسبت به نويسنده‌ى مقالات زير ــ كه يكى از ايرانيان مدافع رژيم جمهورى اسلامى در غرب است و مدتى است خودش را به عنوان متخصص سلامت عمومى و فعالِ برابرى جنسيتى در انتشارات دانشگاهى و شبكه هاى اجتماعى خارج از ايران معرفى ميكند ــ منتشر كنيم:

زهرا زينلى دختر سيروس زينلى يكى از اعضاء و مدافعان فعال رژيم جمهورى اسلامى در ايران است. ما شواهد محكمى داريم كه زهرا با استفاده از نفوذ و امتيازهاى ويژه‌اى كه پدرش در سيستم دانشگاهى و بهداشتى‌ـ درمانى ايران دارد، به دانشگاه وارد شده و همچنين براى ادامه تحصيل در دانشكده‌ى سلامت عمومى بلومبرگ در دانشگاه جانز هاپكينز ايالات متحده امريكا، از منابعِ رانتیِ مالى و اجتماعى از طريق پدرش استفاده كرده‌است.

ايرج مصداقى نويسنده و روزنامه نگار سرشناس و از فعالان حقوق بشر ايران كه در سوئد در تبعيد بسر ميبرد در گزارشى كه پنجم ماه مه ۲۰۲۰ از راديو زمانه منتشر كرده، درباره ى فساد و سپاهى‌گرى در شركتهاى تجهيزات پزشكى ايران شرح داده است. در اين گزارش كه بخشى از آن به خانواده ى زينلى اختصاص دارد با ذكر منابع متعدد توضيح ميدهد كه چگونه سيروس زينلى ــ كسى كه عقد ازدواجش با زهره نفيسى توسط آيت‌الله خمينى در جماران جارى شده ــ از بورسيه تحصيلي و عنوان‌هاى دانشگاهى خود براى پوشش فعاليت‌هايش به نفع رژيم جمهورى اسلامى و در قالب شركت هاى دانش‌بنيان (زيست فناورىِ «كوثر» در تهران و «جينتك بيوفارما» در برلين) بهره برده‌است. او با محمود تولايى پزشك و عضو هيئت علمى دانشگاه بقية الله سپاه پاسداران انقلاب اسلامى همكارى نزديك دارد. هردو از ابتداى انقلاب از مدافعان وفادار رژيم و رهبر جمهورى اسلامى بوده‌اند. به همين دليل است كه شركت هاى به ظاهر خصوصىِ آنها به طور انحصارى از پروژه‌ها و بودجه‌هاى ملى ايران بهره ميبرند و فساد و تبعيض و سپاهى‌گرى سيستمى را دامن مي‌زنند.

فرزندان رژيم معروف به «آقازاده ها» با استفاده از امتيازهاى ويژه‌شان استانداردهاى علمى و آزمون هاى سخت ورودى را دور ميزنند. زهرا زينلى به استناد تعدادى از آشنايان و همكلاسى هايش ــ كه مايل به انتشار نام شان نيستندــ با استفاده از سهميه‌ى هيئت علمى وارد دانشگاه علوم پزشكى ايران در تهران شده‌است و نه با رتبه‌ى واقعى‌اش در آزمون سراسرى. بعد از آن، زهرا براى ادامه تحصيل به دانشگاه جانز هاپكينز مي‌رود و معلوم نيست هزينه اينكار چطور تامين شده است. جايى كه پرداخت شهريه و هزينه هاى هنگفت زندگى حتى براى طبقه‌ى مرفه ايران غيرقابل باور است مگر اينكه از فساد مالى در سيستم بهره برده باشند.

علاوه بر اين، مقالات پژوهشى كه در ايران از او منتشر شده يا در آزمايشگاه پدرش و يا با همكارى خاله اش ناهيد نفيسى كه او هم جراح و عضو هيئت علمى دانشگاه علوم پزشكى ايران در تهران است توليد شده‌اند. اين نكته به تنهايى فرآيند كنترل و ارزشيابى علمى را در كار او زير سؤآل مي‌برد.

زهرا در بيوگرافىِ خود كه در شبكه‌هاى اجتماعى منتشر كرده، فعاليت تخصصى‌ش را متمركز بر نقش رهبرى زنان طبقه‌ى فرودست و متوسط در حوزه‌ى سلامت مي‌داند. اين در حاليست كه او، بعد از پايان يك دوره‌ى فوق‌لیسانس در امريكا، براى مديريت داخلى شركت خصوصى پدرش، در برلين ساكن شده است. این نقشى فرمايشى است كه بنظر ميرسد براى نگه داشتن اقامت اروپا به او داده شده است. او همچنين در توييتى به تاريخ ۲۶ مه ۲۰۲۰ مدعى شده كه با سازمان زنان در سلامت جهانى همكارى فعال دارد. نام او همچنين در ليست سخنرانان حوزه‌ى سلامت ايران و مديريت بحران كرونا در كنفرانس سلامت جهانى ۲۰۲۰ در برلين ديده مي‌شود.ما مي‌دانيم و شاهد بوده‌ايم كه چگونه افرادى مثل زهرا از امتيازات ويژه‌ی خود استفاده ميكنند و به عنوان متخصص براى لابيگرى و توجيه جهان‌بينى و جنايت‌هاى جمهورى اسلامى به غرب فرستاده مي‌شوند. آنها به جهان تصوير و اطلاعات غلط از ايران ميدهند و صداى اعتراض ما به وضعيت زنان و حقوق بشر در ايران را ناشنيده ميگيرند.

تصوير زهراى محجبه زير مقاله‌اى كه در نقد رهبرى زنان و تبعيض هاى جنسيتى و طبقاتى در غرب نوشته شده به خوبى سياست يك بام و دو هواى اين افراد را نشان ميدهد. در ايران حجاب براى تمام زنان از هر عقيده و مليتى اجبارى است و بسيارى از زنان فقط براى مخالفت با اين تبعيض، در زندان بسر ميبرند، يا به شكل‌هاى مختلف مجازات مي‌شوند و شغل و موقعيت اجتماعى خود را از دست مي‌دهند. اين در حاليست كه زنان محجبه مثل زهرا از امتيازهاى ويژه برخوردار مي‌شوند و حتى بدون داشتن صلاحيت هاى لازم به طبقه هاى بالاى اجتماعى و مديريتى ميرسند. زهرا در برابر اين تبعيض سيستماتيك و به حاشيه راندن زنان در ايران ساكت است اما ادعا ميكند براى ارتقاء حقوق زنانِ به حاشيه رانده شده در غرب تلاش ميكند!

ما زنان ايرانىِ متخصص و فعال اجتماعى هستيم كه در مدت زندگى‌مان در ايران توسط افرادى مثل زهرا زينلى و خانواده‌اش مورد تبعيض و تهديد قرار گرفته‌ايم و چون خودمان را با سيستم فاسد منطبق نكرديم و اعتراض كرديم مجبور به مهاجرت و تبعيد شديم. نوشتن درباره‌ى برابرى اجتماعى و جنسيتى توسط اين فرد چيزى جز فريب نيست مگر آنكه قدمى براى برابرى در ايران برداشته باشد، جايى كه بيشترين قدرت را دارد!

ما سرگشوده سخن گفتيم و اگر زهرا مايل باشد، از مناظره‌ى علنى درباره‌ى تمام آنچه گفته شد استقبال ميكنيم. اميدواريم كه او روزى تصميم بگيرد از امتيازهاى ويژه‌اش صرف نظر كند و به معناى واقعى كمكى به مبارزه‌ى زنان ايرانى براى رسيدن به برابرى در داخل ايران بكند.

ما همچنين از مخاطبان اين نامه مي‌خواهيم كه به اعتبار دادن سياسى و اجتماعى به اين افراد پايان بدهند و براى تقويت اعتماد و شفاف سازى در جامعه بما كمك كنند.

Here we would like to inform the public and raise criticism about one of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s propagandists in the west, Zahra Zeinali, the Iranian author of  the following articles in which she discusses gender equity and public health:

1. Posted on 8 Nov 2018: “The need to adopt an intersectional lens to the gender equity agenda in global health.”
2. Published on 27 Apr 2019: “Intersectionality and global health leadership: Parity is not enough.”
3. Posted on 19 May 2020: “Political and economic determinants of health: the case of COVID-19 outcomes in Iran under sanctions.”

Zahra Zeinali is the daughter of Sirous Zeinali, a member of the political elite, and active supporter, of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Sirous Zeinal, the head of Kowsar Biotech Company (KBC), has strong connections to the highest clerical and military figures within the Iranian government. We have strong evidence that Zahra became powerful in the academic and health system in Iran using her father’s ideologic privileges and political connections. She also used his financial and social resources to study at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in the United States (Maryland).

Iraj Mesdaghi, a renowned Iranian human rights activist and investigative journalist, currently exiled in Sweden, recently published a report in Radio Zamaneh, about the cronyism and corruption in medical equipment and drug distribution companies in Iran. In this report, he describes how Sirous Zeinali uses his academic title to cover his activities in the form of a knowledge enterprise company called Kowsar Biotech Company in Tehran and Genetek Biopharma in Berlin, Germany. He works closely with Dr. Mahmoud Toulaei, the President of the Iranian Genetic Association, who is a physician at Baqiyatallah Hospital and affiliated with the Iranian Revolutionary Guards (IRGC). They both have been active supporters of the Supreme Leader and the Islamic Regime. For this reason, their private companies receive exclusivity over national/government health projects. They reap the benefits of these supplies by operating monopolies and black markets.

Iraj Mesdaghi’s report cites several examples of how Zahra Zeinali could have benefited from her father's connections. She studied at Iran University of Medical Sciences, a top school with difficult admission standards. The children of the regime’s elite can bypass difficult admission standards even if their grades and test scores would not normally qualify. In anonymous interviews with her former classmates, they strongly doubted that she gained admission in an honest manner. Zahra then went on to Johns Hopkins University in the United States for a master’s program before she fulfills her legal obligations for a medical degree in Iran, and it is unclear how that was funded. If she did not receive a fellowship from Johns Hopkins, it would be virtually impossible for even an upper-class Iranian to afford the tuition and living costs there, unless they have corrupt money.

Furthermore, all of the research articles she published in Iran while she was an undergraduate student, have been generated either at her father's lab in Iran or with her aunt Nahid Nafissi, a surgeon and professor also at Iran University of Medical Sciences in Tehran. This is problematic because there is no impartiality or monitoring mechanism in this process, and the research topics are often far from her qualifications.

Zahra Zeinali’s bio indicates that her focus is on the field of health leadership to promote women from low- and middle-income countries. She currently resides in Germany and runs her father’s startup company in Berlin, likely using the company to maintain European residency status. On social media she claims that she also collaborates with Women in Global Health Organization and Global Health 50/50 Initiative. Her name is also listed among the speakers of regional meeting at the World Health Summit 2020 in Berlin.

We believe and have seen that individuals like Zahra only strengthen the Iranian regime’s lobby in the West, by spreading false information, whitewashing crimes, and keeping the regime in power under the guise of seeking reform. They contribute to the systematic social discrimination, and suppression of women's rights and basic human rights by the Islamic Republic. Zahra’s picture on this blog article criticizing “Intersectionality” and “women’s leadership” reveals her double standard politics. Wearing hijab is compulsory for all women in Iran, regardless of their religion, and many women lose their jobs or are in prison for this very reason. Zahra is silent on this topic not to lose her privileges, yet she claims to be advocating for gender equality in the West. Aside from the topic of women’s rights, those who benefit from Iranian regime and are complicit in corruption are directly contributing to the maintenance and existence of one of the most hated authoritarian regimes in the world.

We are Iranian women experts and activists who are discriminated against and threatened during our living in Iran by people like Zahra and her family, and are often forced to immigrate abroad because we refuse to conform with their oppressive and corrupt system. Writing about social and gender equity is fraudulent unless she takes steps to improve equity where she has the most power: Iran.

We welcome a public dialogue with Zahra Zeinali to discuss everything mentioned in this article, and hope that she will one day decide to give up her privileges and literally help her fellow Iranian women in their fight for equality inside the country.

We also ask the organizations addressed by this letter to stop giving social credits and political power to such a person and help us with improving trust and transparency in society.
