Petition Protesting Media Incitement to War and Nuclear Bombing of Iran
April 8, 2026
We call for accountability from Iran International and for the initiation of legal proceedings against Ali Hossein Ghazizadeh.
Ali Hossein Ghazizadeh, a journalist with the Iran International news network, publicly encouraged U.S. President Donald Trump, on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), to use nuclear weapons against Iran. We, the undersigned, strongly protest this statement, as well as Mr. Ghazizadeh’s repeated and explicit remarks. As a UK-based journalist, he has consistently used both media platforms and social networks to advocate for military action, and even nuclear strikes, against Iran. We therefore call for the initiation of a formal legal process in response to these statements.
On April 6, 2026, Mr. Ghazizadeh posted a message in English proposing two purported “solutions” to end military confrontation with Iran: a “Trump” and a “Truman Plus” solution, adding that the latter might be the “ultimate solution.” The reference to “Truman” invokes the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II. The term “Plus” implies an even more severe nuclear attack than those carried out in Hiroshima.
In practice, Iran International has become a platform amplifying the war-oriented discourse associated with Israel and Reza Pahlavi, the exiled son of Iran’s last Shah. Over the past two years, its coverage has contributed to legitimizing military action against Iran. Within this broader pattern, Mr. Ghazizadeh’s recent remarks represent an even more extreme and violent articulation of that same approach.
Media outlets are not merely instruments for the transmission of information; they can play a significant role in shaping public opinion, framing political discourse, and, in certain contexts, contributing to the normalization or justification of violence. When a media organization or media figure consistently speaks in favor of military attacks, escalation, or war, this is not merely an expression of opinion. It can incite public sentiment, normalize violence, and prepare society psychologically to accept war and the bombardment of a nation. In such circumstances, the media becomes part of the machinery that produces and reproduces a discourse of war, as we are witnessing with Iran International.
History offers clear examples of the dangers the media can pose. One of the most significant is the Rwandan case. During the 1994 genocide, Radio Télévision Libre des Mille Collines (RTLM) and the newspaper Kangura disseminated hate speech and incitement, encouraging violence against Tutsis. Following the genocide, the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda prosecuted and convicted key media figures, including Ferdinand Nahimana, Jean-Bosco Barayagwiza, and Hassan Ngeze, for direct and public incitement to commit genocide. The tribunal established that these actors did not merely inform the public but played a central role in inciting mass violence.
The approach and conduct of Iran International must therefore be examined not as the expression of a political viewpoint, but within the framework of incitement to war, the promotion of violence, and the legitimization of military aggression.
We, the undersigned, declare:
- In light of the legal and historical precedents regarding the role of media in inciting violence, including the Rwandan case, we strongly object to Iran International’s promotion of war discourse and normalization of violence. We consider this conduct contrary to democratic rights and public safety, and we call for accountability from those responsible within this network.
- We specifically protest the statement made by Ali Hossein Ghazizadeh, a journalist at Iran International, on the platform X, in which he explicitly encouraged the use of nuclear weapons against Iran. In light of historical precedents and comparable legal cases, such conduct may constitute incitement to crimes against humanity.
Accordingly, we:
- Call for the initiation of legal proceedings in response to the statements made by Ali Hossein Ghazizadeh.
- Call for a formal investigation into the responsibility of Iran International in promoting violence and war, and for the accountability of its journalists and management.
