To: Government of Luxembourg, relevant EU asylum authorities, and the Government of Croatia
My name is Farid Ahmad Farhat, and I am a citizen of Afghanistan. I am submitting this petition to protect my life and dignity.
I arrived in Luxembourg about two months ago. However, due to the Dublin Regulation (an EU rule that generally makes the first country of entry responsible for an asylum claim), I now face the risk of being transferred to Croatia — a country where I have already experienced violence and abuse.
While crossing from Bosnia and Herzegovina into Croatia, I was subjected to beating, ill-treatment, and abuse by Croatian police. This experience has caused me serious physical and especially psychological harm. I am currently not in a stable mental condition and continue to suffer from the effects of that violence.
Returning me to Croatia would expose me once again to the same conditions that harmed me before.
I respectfully ask the relevant authorities to:
-
Stop my transfer to Croatia;
-
Examine my asylum application fairly and independently in Luxembourg;
-
Conduct a transparent and independent investigation into my allegations of abuse by Croatian police;
-
Provide me with the necessary medical and psychological support.
I ask you to uphold your human rights obligations and not return me to a place where I have already been subjected to violence and ill-treatment.
Farid Ahmad Farhat
