Bijan Kazemi, a political activist from Kuhdasht in Lorestan Province, was arrested on January 19, 2025, by the security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran. To date, judicial and security authorities have provided no information regarding his current condition or whereabouts.
Shahnaz Khosravi, Bijan’s mother, has stated on her Instagram page that her son’s arrest occurred without explanation and without formal charges being communicated. Bijan has also been denied his fundamental rights to phone calls, family visits, and legal representation. It has been reported that on January 22, Mr. Kazemi was transferred to Ward 209 of Evin Prison.
Previously, Bijan Kazemi was arrested in April 2020 on security-related charges and sentenced to three and a half years in prison. After serving two years at Khorramabad Central Prison, he was released under electronic surveillance. Throughout his imprisonment, he suffered from multiple health issues. His family now expresses grave concern about his health and well-being, exacerbated by the ongoing lack of information.
We, the undersigned, urgently call on the judicial authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran to:
- Immediately disclose the current condition and location of Bijan Kazemi.
- Provide him immediate and unrestricted access to his family, medical care, and legal counsel.
- Clarify the charges against him and ensure a transparent, fair judicial process by international human rights standards.
