Twenty-eight Sunni Arab prisoners, comprising one woman and 27 men, remain in an uncertain situation at Shiban prison in Ahvaz. Despite the Dezful Revolutionary Court in Khuzestan province closing their case, these individuals continue to face indeterminate futures. Arrested on April 10, 2023, during an Iftar celebration, they were initially charged with "gathering and conspiring to commit a crime against internal security."
The Dezful court had previously dismissed the case, citing a lack of sufficient evidence. However, under apparent pressure from security institutions, there's an ongoing effort to reopen the case with a newly appointed judge. These detainees, all family heads, have caused their families immense emotional and financial strain, leaving them incapable of affording legal representation.
An informed source close to the prisoners' families revealed distressing details: "These prisoners endure daily torture through false promises of bail or sentencing." The source further emphasized that the prisoners' only 'crime' is their Sunni faith, with baseless accusations leveled against them during interrogations.
The detainees include Hajjar Heidari, Bashir Abdollahzadeh, Jamal Cha'ab, Javad Dafari Gassibeh, Hossein Al-bobaldi, Hossein Buazar, Hossein Hamza, Heidar Cha'ab, Khalil Abdollahzadeh, Rashid Dailami, Rashid Abdollahzadeh, Zaman Anafcheh, Sajjad Suleimani Fardi, Seyyed Hamid Musavi, Seyyed Saeed Jadeleh, Seyyed Kaim Pursadoun, Sahib Kras Nejadian, Adel Jaberi Shibli, Abbas Dafari Gassibeh, Aziz Abdollahzadeh, Aziz Nasseri Fard, Ali Rami, Ali Kaab, Alireza Salman Nejad, Issa Rouizi Daylami, Mohammad Saadi, Mahmoud Saadi, and Ghazlavi.
These individuals are victims of systematic discrimination against Sunni and Arab minorities. We, the undersigned, demand their immediate release and call for an end to these unjust practices.
