We are bringing to light the continuous unjust treatment of Dr. Yasser Rahmani-Rad, a respected physician from Khorramabad. Dr. Rahmani-Rad faced detention and endured torture for 46 days during the "Women, Life, Freedom" protests in 2022. This mistreatment, executed by the Intelligence Department of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Lorestan province, was a consequence of his humanitarian act of treating injured protesters in Mahabad. During this process, his medical equipment and tools were confiscated.
In December 2022, a member of the parliament from Baden, Germany, offered political support to Dr. Rahmani-Rad and his two colleagues. Thanks to the efforts of Iranian activists and European institutions, he was released on bail on January 18, 2023. However, this period of freedom was short-lived. Dr. Rahmani-Rad was rearrested at his home on September 21, 2023, and taken to an undisclosed location. After interrogation and attempts to charge him with "inciting against the regime," he was conditionally released on a bail of one and a half billion tomans.
Despite these challenges, Dr. Rahmani-Rad's commitment to human rights and his medical duties remains unwavering. Yet, the Islamic Republic of Iran Medical Council has now forced the closure of his medical practice, hindering his ability to serve the community. This action is not only a violation of Dr. Rahmani-Rad's rights but also deprives the community of his valuable medical services.
We, the undersigned, firmly demand an immediate end to this harassment. The closure of Dr. Rahmani Rad's office is unlawful and must be reversed without delay. We stand in solidarity with Dr. Rahmani-Rad and call upon the relevant authorities to uphold justice by allowing him to resume his medical practice.
